“My interest is in the future because I am going to spend the rest of my life there.”
I remember a time when I struggled to define what my long-time objective and goal was. Caught up in the here and now I immersed myself in the daily grind with the blind belief all this effort would result in me reaching a goal.
Looking back, with the benefit of hindsight, that was by far one of the worst strategies I attempted to execute. And it is no surprise I have not reached my goal.
They say that with maturity comes wisdom. My wife may disagree that I have matured and sometimes I feel I am getting reprimanded for being the instigator more than my kids are. But that’s for another blog.
On a serious note, as I have learnt through my year’s, wisdom has prevailed. And I discovered that without a purpose you cannot set a goal. And without a plan, you can’t have a strategy, and yes without a clear strategy one cannot execute!.
My Mom introduced me to Lucille Ball, the other night. Not personally, as she passed on in 1989. Instead, I was introduced through black an white comedy sketches, on Netflix, of her self-produced sitcoms “I Love Lucy”. My Mom tells me this series became one of the most beloved programs in television history during the 1950’s and from seeing my Mom relive those memories with a broad smile I could understand the popularity.
When searching through some info on Lucille Ball, I came across one of her famous quotes:
It’s a helluva start, being able to recognise what makes you happy.
This relatively simple quote spoke volumes to me and sums up how I feel at the start of my exciting journey with ConsenSys. I am humbled and privileged to be joining a global formation of technologists and entrepreneurs who are passionate and committed to building infrastructure, applications, and practices that will enable a decentralised world.
In my new role as Head of South African Operations, I have found what makes me happy, and WOW it’s going to be an awesome journey!
